Jeremy Kyle has heard from a caller with strong views on the climate action group Extinction Rebellion. Caller Anne branded the eco-protestors, known for their disruptive demos, “extremists.” She went on to claim that many XR activists appeared to follow pro-Europe figures on social media and argued the group’s plan was to have Britain “locked down forever,” so the disruption could be blamed on Brexit.
Anne in Essex told Jeremy Vine: “I think these Extinction Rebellion extremists…they all seem to be, having seen them on social media, following those pro-Europe types.
“Very aggressive remainers.
“Who want to see the country locked down forever.
“And then they can say we told you so Brexit would never work.”

“I don’t really get where they are coming from,” she added.
“I think if Extinction Rebellion are truly worried about our flood levels, and the fact that animals are losing their habitats.
“They really need to address the fact that most of our countryside is being buried under concrete.
“There is nowhere for the rainwater to drain away and animals are heading onto the motorway that is why there is so much roadkill.”
Matthew Wright slams Extinction Rebellion protests
It comes after Extinction Rebellion activist Todd Smith was shut down in a row over the protest group’s actions with LBC host Matthew Wright earlier in September.
Mr Wright told LBC: “One of the criticisms of XR protests in London is by and large they disrupt the vulnerable.
“The ordinary working man, women try to go about their business.
“Trying to earn a crust after having spent in many cases a year and a half in extremely difficult financial circumstances.

“And they turn up for work trying to get back to normality and once again we have got groups of people making their lives super difficult.”
He continued: “And achieving, well if you look at what our Government has done in terms of expanding oil production etcetera, etcetera.
Mr Wright added: “You can argue you are having a counter initiative effect, that the government is not only not listening to you it is going in the opposite direction.
“You are picking on the wrong people! Stop picking on the ordinary people, start picking on the Government.”
