GB News host Patrick Christys savaged the European Union and its unelected leaders after Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen suggested bloc-wide mandatory Covid vaccines. Mr Christys told viewers that the EU’s mask “has well and truly slipped to reveal the snarling face of a tinpot dictatorship”.  He also ridiculed Remainers for backing the EU, adding: “How’s that campaign for a second referendum coming along?”

Concerns over the new Omicron variant of coronavirus have prompted many EU countries to impose curbs on travel as well as impose mandatory mask-wearing, social-distancing measures, curfews, and lockdowns.

However, others have gone a step further with mandatory vaccines.

On Wednesday, Ms von der Leyen said it was time to “think about mandatory vaccination” after rising infection rates across Europe.

While she said it was “understandable and appropriate” to discuss how to “encourage and potentially think about mandatory vaccination,” the power rests with the member-state.

Austria has already said it will make Covid jabs compulsory next February, while Germany is considering the idea.

The GB News host said: “The unelected EU Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen has gone from suggesting that they should ‘think the unthinkable’ when it comes to compulsory vaccines, to saying that mandatory vaccinations should be actively encouraged.

“This is the woman who completely messed up her continent’s vaccine procurement process and tried to steal some of our vaccines.

“On the homepage of the European Union’s website, it says one of its key missions is protecting citizens and their freedoms.

“Well, no, it isn’t. It appears to me that right now its key mission is control. How’s that campaign for a second referendum coming along?”

He listed the various restrictions that have been imposed across Europe, as he told viewers: “When you see it all stitched together like a patchwork quilt of misery, it’s quite shocking.

“Germany is banning the unvaccinated from public life and imposing mandatory vaccinations from February.”

Mr Christys continued: “In Greece, the birthplace of democracy, lawmakers approved mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for people over 60.

“If they do not get the vaccine by 16 January, they risk being fined €100 every month until they do.

“France is toughening its conditions of entry and the Italian government on Wednesday decided to exclude unvaccinated people from certain leisure activities.

“But get this – if you want to go to an indoor restaurant, the cinema, or attend a sporting event even testing negative for coronavirus isn’t enough to get you in.”

Officials from the World Health Organization have said all countries must prepare for potential new surges connected to Omicron.

The OECD has warned Omicron threatens the world’s recovery as they lowered growth estimates for 2021.
