Keir Starmer says nurseries ‘probably should close’
The Government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic once again dominates the agenda, with England plunged into its third national lockdown at the start of last week. The Prime Minister is understood to be considering introducing tougher measures to combat the rise in Covid cases if the current restrictions are not sufficient.
A national curfew, shutting click-and-collect services, and banning exercising with other households are all being assessed as potential options to tighten coronavirus rules.
Labour supported the national restrictions but has attacked the Government for being slow to implement the lockdown.
On Sunday Sir Kier also indicated he thought the rule may need to be tougher.
He said on BBC’s Andrew Marr Show: “They are tough and they’re necessary. They may not be tough enough.
“In a sense, I think the most important thing is people get that message about stay at home.
“And it’s up to the Government to put that message out there the whole time.”
