The latest figures out of Scotland’s western Southern Uplands area, Dumfries and Galloway, have shown that it should be in Level 1. However, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has refused to drop it down from Level 2 due to it being close to other areas which have higher coronavirus levels. The SNP leader was grilled about her decision during her daily briefing by ITV Border’s Political Editor Peter MacMahon.
He asked: “You could argue that for parts of Scotland, for example, Level 1 Highland is close to parts of Level 3 Culross.
“Colin Smyth, a Labour MSP, said your decision had made a mockery of the whole system.
“Does he have a point?”
Ms Sturgeon denied that this was the case, insisting that the decision had partly come down to distance.
