A 3-year-old found dead from a gunshot wound Thursday in Commerce City may have been killed as the result of the mishandling of a loaded gun, police said Friday.
The child was home with his two brothers — ages 12 and 13 — with no adults around, police said in a news release.
Police were called Thursday afternoon to the 7800 block of Jasmine Drive on reports of shots fired, and on arrival officers found the 3-year-old boy dead from a gunshot wound.
The other siblings were unharmed.
“The Commerce City Police Department urges adults to keep weapons in a secure and safe place,” the department said.
