Horrifying footage has captured dozens of people at Kabul airport clinging to a US plane as it leaves Afghanistan – moments before some fell to their deaths.

The airport in the country’s capital has been overrun as thousands of locals try to escape following the invasion of the Taliban.

Shocking videos shared by journalist Moreteza Kasemian have now emerged of people chasing after a US Air Force plane as it prepares to leave the runway.

One clip shows several locals precariously hanging onto the side of the aircraft as it gets ready for takeoff.

Another video, which Daily Star has chosen not to show for taste purposes, appears to show several people falling from the aircraft and plunging to their deaths.

A Kabul news agency reported: "BREAKING NEWS – Locals near Kabul airport claim that three young men who were holding themselves tightly in the wheels of an aeroplane fell on top of people's houses.

“One of the locals confirmed this and said that the fall of these people made a loud and terrifying noise.”

Russia’s state controlled Channel One TV has claimed to have verified the video of stowaways falling from the aircraft.

“We have verified it and it is NOT fake, “ reported the channel.

“People are trying to leave Kabul by tying themselves to the outsides of the planes.

“Those who could not hold on crash to death.”

Reuters have reported at least five people have been killed at Kabul aircraft today (August 16).

One witness said he had seen the bodies of five people being taken to a vehicle.

Another witness said it was not clear whether the victims were killed by gunshots or in a stampede.

The tragic scenes come as the Taliban took control of Kabul amid a blistering offensive over the last few weeks following the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.

There are growing fears that the group's brutal regime, which once allowed public stonings and executions, could return.
