Tributes have been paid to a young woman who died after being taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The family of "beautiful" Courtney Boorne, who was killed following a disturbance in Kirkby, near Liverpool, have said they are in "total disbelief".

The 20-year-old was named by her family as the woman who sadly died, while a teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder, reports The ECHO.

Touching tributes have poured in for Courtney, including a fundraising page with hopes of raising £5,000 for her family, who are "still trying to come to terms" with the tragic news.

It reads: "We are in total disbelief. Last night we got the worst news about the murder and still trying to come to terms with what’s happened, and due to it being on Christmas Eve it’s been very difficult for all of the family and would appreciate every penny you can donate."

Emergency services were called to Quarry Green Heights in Kirkby at around 4.40pm on December 23 to reports of a disturbance.

A 20-year-old woman was taken to hospital in a critical condition but despite best efforts, she died.

A post mortem will take place to establish the cause of death.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested by officers on suspicion of murder.

Since sharing the devastating news, tributes have been pouring in. One woman wrote online: "So sad rip Courtney thinking of all her family."

Another added: "Thinking of Cheryl and the kids, gone far too soon. Rip Courtney."

And a third wrote: "Rest in peace Courtney you will be sadly missed my heart is broke for you and your family, all the girls are heartbroken."
