"Our thoughts and sympathies are with everyone affected."

At the time of the explosions, it was confirmed that a man had suffered from life-threatening injuries as a result of the explosion, and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known, but the West Midlands Fire Service did confirm that an investigation is taking place.

No details on who the homeowners were have been released, either, nor has any confirmation as to the relationship between the woman who has died or the man injured in the horrific blast.

A spokesman said: "Good progress has been made, we've scaled down the resources we have at the incident but remain in attendance."

And local police confirmed that Dulwich Road – where the explosion happened – will be closed for a "very long time".
