A British woman has tragically died in an accident just hours after she arrived on holiday with her wife.
Marie Riley, 37, passed away after an incident in the Spanish coastal town of Benidorm while visiting with spouse Lynne, according to the Daily Record.
The couple from Paisley had been married for four years, and jetted off with friends to the popular tourist destination on Monday 7 March.
Her sad death was announced by Lynne on social media the following day, prompting an outpouring of responses from heartbroken friends and family who described her as "a beautiful lassie" and "genuinely one in a million".
Megan Smith said: "Lynne I am in complete shock. I am so so sorry. One of the loveliest girls I’ve ever met. Please let us know if you need anything at all."
Ronetta Adams gave support to the widowed wife by saying: "Life is so cruel Lynne, take each day as it comes and look after yourself, you have great family and friends who will help you through this tragedy.
"Our thought are with you all xx sleep tight Marie you will be sadly missed xx."
May Pollock wrote: "So sorry to hear about Marie, she was an amazing person ,will never forget her , thinking of you, we are here if you need anything at all xx."
And Savannah Boreman noted: "Love you to the moon and back Lynne, I am still shocked beyond words but we’ll all be here when you get home."
Her neighbour Charlene Mullen meanwhile told a story of how her and Lynne "started as neighbours" and "grew to become best friends".
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) told the Daily Record: "We are assisting the family of a British woman following an incident in Benidorm and in contact with the Spanish authorities."
The Daily Star has contacted the Spanish Policia Nacional for comment.
