Christmas video final straw that pushed Prince Harry to the edge, says expert

An expert has claimed the final straw that pushed Prince Harry away from the Royal Family was a video of Prince George stirring Christmas pudding.

Already crumbling, Harry andMeghan's relationship with the palace suffered its final blow when a video surfaced in 2019 of Her late Majesty the Queen alongside her grandson, according to news.com.au’s royal writer Daniela Elser.

Posted on all the official Buckingham Palace social media accounts, the clip shows Prince George, the then-Prince of Wales, Prince Charles and the Queen gathered at the palace on Christmas Eve. This came hours before the infamous rendition of Her late Majesty’s annual TV address which showed the monarch with pictures of Will and Kate, but not the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Although the Christmas pud clip was a relatively innocent picture of a kid spending some quality festive time with his grandma, combined with the Queen’s address it allegedly caused a stir in Canada where Harry and Meghan were based.

Elser wrote: “The excising of Harry and Meghan from the tableau had been a last-minute change, according to Christopher Andersen’s Brothers And Wives.

“According to Andersen, just before Her late Majesty was due to begin filming, she 'looked over the table where the photographs she had so lovingly selected were arranged. ‘That one,’ said the Queen, surveying the other images of past and future monarchs and their families. ‘I suppose we don’t need that one.'"

Royal commentator Omid Scobie and co-author Carolyn Durand wrote in their book Finding Freedom that “for Harry and Meghan, [the video] was yet another sign that they needed to consider their own path”.

Elser continued: “The message coming out of the SW1 postcode crystal clear: Harry did not matter, all of these instances dangerously pointed reminders of his hierarchical irrelevance. The takeaway: The Sussexes were unneeded, peripheral, secondary.”
