A Denver jury convicted a man of second-degree murder Friday, eight months after he was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting.
Arturo Villalobos, 41, was convicted after four hours of jury deliberation Friday, according to a release from the Denver District Attorney. Villalobos was accused of shooting James Nixon, 41, on April 14 after the two had reportedly argued at Nixon’s home. Nixon died two days after the shooting.
Nixon, who was described by loved ones in an obituary as an avid soccer player, was taken to a Denver urgent care with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was transported to the hospital, where he died two days later. His death was ruled a homicide, according to the release.
The witness who took Nixon to the urgent care told police he heard Nixon and Villalobos arguing at Nixon’s home, followed by a gunshot, according to the district attorney’s release.
Villalobos was arrested shortly after Nixon’s death. He will be sentenced Feb. 16.
