Sunny and hot weather is expected in Denver through Thursday but the mountains and far Eastern Plains could have some afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
Denver high temperatures will be 96 degrees on Tuesday, 95 degrees on Wednesday and 97 degrees on Thursday, according to the weather service forecast. Skies will be sunny and winds will gust to about 22 mph on Tuesday and 17 mph on Wednesday.
Hot and mostly dry weather in northeastern and north-central Colorado will elevate fire concerns, the weather service said. There’s a risk for severe thunderstorms over the northeast plains Tuesday afternoon, with a couple of storms capable of producing 1-inch hail and winds to 60 mph.
An air quality alert is posted for the Denver metro area until 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued an ozone action day alert for: Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer, and Weld counties. Ozone concentrations are expected to be in the moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups range on Tuesday.
