Huge train fire sparks evacuations of homes as flames and smoke seen for miles

A huge train fire has broken out in South Wales, triggering the evacuation of a number of nearby houses.

Pictures shared on Twitter show enormous plumes of smoke and flames visible for miles around following the blaze near the town of Llangennech.

In a statement, Dyfed-Powys Police said on Twitter: "Emergency services are dealing with a large diesel train which is on fire on the track near Llangennech.

"A cordon has been put in place around the train, with roads closed and homes being evacuated.

"People are being asked to avoid the area. More information to follow."

Many nearby residents took to social media to report the mammoth blaze.

One Twitter user wrote: "Looks like the Murco oil train is on fire near Llangennech. Huge flames, area being evacuated."

Another tweeted: "It looks like a train on fire. Definitely fuel burning earlier – could smell it from well over a mile away."
