I-70 closure today: Fatal crash on westbound lanes at Georgetown

A fatal crash closed Interstate 70 westbound at Georgetown Thursday morning, according to Colorado State Police.

The crash involved a jack-knifed semitrailer, the agency said in a statement, and the road will be closed for an extended time. There are no available detours.

Anyone who planned to drive on I-70 west through Georgetown should wait for the road to reopen before heading out, according to state police. Truckers are advised to wait in the Denver metro area.

The mountains saw wintery conditions Thursday, with elevations above 9,000 feet expected to receive between 4 and 8 inches of snow. Visibility was expected to be low and roads expected to be snow-covered.
