Kim Jong-un's cheerleader wife has a £4billion fortune, lives a life of luxury and picks from a wardrobe full of designer clothes.

Ri Sol-ju appeared in public for the first time in over a year amid rumours she had been executed.

She is married to one of the most powerful men on Earth but like with much of what happens in North Korea, she has tried to keep her private life shrouded in secrecy.

Ri made her long-awaited return to the public eye at a concert marking the Day of the Shining Star, an important public holiday in North Korea.

Her prolonged absence sparked speculation of pregnancy, illness or a rift with her despotic husband.

She is thought to live a lavish life of luxury with expensive champagne, luxury palaces and private jets, although she must also turn a blind eye to her husband's excesses.

Ri's upbringing in the northeastern city of Chongjin is shrouded in mystery, and analysts think her name might be a pseudonym.

She was among 90 cheerleaders who represented her country at an athletics championship in South Korea in 2005.

Ri is also thought to have been a singer in the popular Unhasu Orchestra but, since marrying Kim, North Korean officials are "trying to erase her past as a singer and entertainer by confiscating popular bootleg CDs of her performances," according to a South Korean commentator.

They are thought to have wed in 2009 but Ri was not publicly unveiled as Kim's wife until 2012.

The couple have three children – a son born in 2010, and a daughter in 2013 as well as third in 2017, whose gender has not been revealed, and their names have never been officially released.

Some speculated that she is being punished for overstepping the mark in a row with Kim.

Kim reportedly owns 17 palaces around North Korea, including one with its own 500m airstrip in Wonsan.

The couple’s main residence, Central Luxury Mansion, is in the country's capital, Pyongyang.

Their nuclear-attack proof pad is protected by multiple military units along with a high-voltage electric fence and even minefields.

It even has its own train station underneath and has tunnels connecting it to some of his other properties.

Kim also has his own private party island, where he escapes to drink cocktails and expensive tequila in the sun.

The couple have also been pictured on their 95ft yacht.
