The members of the reserve force will not appear alongside colleagues in Washington on Wednesday as Joe Biden is sworn in as America’s 46th president. The Associated Press reported that the pair were stood down after they were “found to have ties to fringe right group militias.” Some 25,000 National Guard troops arriving in the US capital are being vetted by the FBI.
The major security operation comes amid fears of possible inside attacks on Wednesday.
The army secretary told of how commanders have been warned to be on the lookout for problems within their ranks.
And he said troops are being trained on how to identify potential insider threats.
