A small child has died after being reported missing Saturday, according to a press release from authorities.
At 1:07 p.m. Saturday, Prowers County Dispatch received a report a small child was missing from a residence in Lamar. Lamar Police Department, Lamar Fire and Ambulance Service, Prowers County Sheriff’s Office, Prowers Rural Fire, Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Department of Wildlife Officers, Colorado State Patrol, and numerous area citizens assisted in a general search for the missing child.
At 3:30 p.m., the child, whose age and gender were not released, was located and transported to the Prowers Medical Center, where the child was pronounced deceased. On Saturday afternoon, the Prowers County Communications Facebook page posted a 4-year-old girl was reported missing in Lamar.
While the investigation is preliminary, authorities stated the death appears to be accidental in nature.
A full investigation by the Lamar Police Department and Prowers County Coroner’s Office is underway.
Because of the circumstances and out of respect for the family, authorities stated no identifying information will be provided at this time, and more information may be released when the investigation is completed.
