A man has been rushed to hospital after being attacked by a "machete-wielding maniac" at a London Underground station.

The terrifying scenes unfolded around 6.47pm on Friday, July 9, on a Jubilee Line service at Green Park station, with anti-terror police rushing to the scene shortly afterward.

One bystander said a man was seen with what appeared to be "blood-stained" clothing, MyLondon reports.

Videos shared on social media show a man being arrested by police as passengers evacuate the station behind him.

One person told MyLondon: "Half the platform were reluctant to leave. Then on leaving we saw how many anti-terrorism police were there with a suspect."

In a statement, British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to Green Park Underground station at 6.47pm today (July 9) following reports of a stabbing on-board a Jubilee Line service.

"Specialist officers have been deployed and a man has been arrested in connection. Paramedics also attended, and a person has been taken to a local hospital.

"Green Park Underground station remains closed while officers attend."

In a tweet, British Transport Police Supt Mark Lawrie wrote: "Due to an incident at #greenpark the station is closed but will be opened at the earliest opportunity.

"Victim with minor injuries being cared for at hospital. No officers injured, weapon recovered. British Transport Police Ops Support Unit on scene."

A Twitter user responded to someone asking why there were delays on the Jubilee Line, which was part suspended because of the incident.

He wrote: "It was a machete wielding maniac in Green Park."

Another tweeted: "Guy with a machete on the tube started stabbing someone."

A man has been arrested while another man has been taken to hospital with injuries.

Green Park station remains closed and the Jubilee Line is part suspended.
