Matt Hancock sparks hair transplant speculation after sudden getaway to Turkey

    Matt Hancock was spotted browsing shops in Turkey prompting jokes he's "there for a hair transplant".

    The former health secretary was filmed outside the Grand Bazaar, Istanbul, Turkey, on Sunday (January 8).

    Onlooker Abdul Al-Kadiri, 29, was surprised to spot the politician shopping at a fashion dupe stall and questioned if he was there for a "hair transplant".

    Abdul, a journalist and filmmaker, said: "I couldn’t believe it when I saw him. I was looking at him for about two minutes before I realised it actually was him.

    "It was so random. He’s either there for a hair transplant or to get his teeth done.

    "You don’t go to Turkey for a holiday. Especially at the moment – it’s freezing."

    People joked about his visit on Twitter – saying: "Matt Hancock spotted buying a fake t-shirt in Turkey. Wonder if he's getting a hair transplant."

    Another tweeted: "Matt Hancock was spotted in Turkey lol. Probably getting a new hair transplant with that cheque lol."

    Another wrote: "Is Matt Hancock getting a hair transplant in Turkey?"

    While one said on TikTok: "Is he getting his teeth done?"

    Former Health Secretary Hancock was the most controversial contestant during November's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here series.

    As a serving MP and somebody whose handling of the Covid-19 pandemic was heavily criticised, he was scrutinised for his appearance in the show by members of the public, campmates and Westminster alike.

    He went on to finish third in the ITV programme behind Queen of the Jungle Jill Scott – a member of the England Lionesses' Euro 2022 football team – and runner-up Owen Warner – the Hollyoaks actor.

    A week after leaving the jungle, Hancock announced his decision to stand down as a politician at the next General Election.

    Matt Hancock's representative has been approached for a comment on his Turkey trip.
