As Donald Trump prepares to break tradition by skipping Joe Biden’s inauguration, the US First Lady has also reportedly ignored the usual formalities.
According to CNN , Melania Trump has broken the longstanding convention of inviting future First Lady Dr Jill Biden to Washington.
Outgoing First Ladies usually give a tour of the White House to their successor to bring them up to speed.
But Melania has reportedly chosen to ignore the 70-year tradition ahead of inauguration day on January 20, according the US outlets.
The olive branch dates back to the 50s when Bess Truman, Harry Truman’s wife, gave a tour to Mamie Eisenhower to talk about the role ahead of President-elect Dwight Eisenhower coming to power.
CNN reported that a White House official, and a member of the Trump administration, said the behaviour was ‘abhorrent’ as previous administrations have followed the tradition and put politics aside.
"Melania Trump will become the first modern first lady not to invite the woman who will replace her to the White House for a walk-through of the private living quarters on the second and third floors,” CNN's Kate Andersen said.
A spokesperson for Dr Biden confirmed that she had not been contacted by the White House, Mail Online reported.

Michelle Obama invited Melania to the White House back in 2017 when husband Barack was preparing to hand the reigns to Donald.
The pair reportedly spoke about raising a family at the White House, as both have young girls of a similar age.
The snub comes after the outgoing First Lady posted a video to Twitter, a platform her husband is not allowed to use, asking Americans to come together.
She said: “The promise of this nation belongs to all of us. Do not lose sight of your integrity and values.
“Use every opportunity to show consideration for another person and build good habits into your daily lives.”
She added: “I am humbled to have had the opportunity to represent nation with such and generous people”.
