The Met Office has issued an alert at the 11th-hour warning that parts of Britain are about to be hit with a deluge of heavy rain.
The ‘yellow’ weather warning for heavy rain was issued at 10.26pm on Monday night (September 11) and comes into force at 1am on Tuesday morning. The national weather forecaster says the heavy rain could cause flooding and disruption in places.
The Environment Agency has also issued a ‘severe’ flood warning and is urging people in the affected area to “act now”.

The Met Office says: “Outbreaks of rain are expected to become heavier and more persistent during the early hours of Tuesday, extending east across northeast Wales, the north Midlands, parts of northern England and Lincolnshire.
“20 to 30 mm rain is likely quite widely within around six hours, with perhaps as much as 40 to 50 mm in a few places. This is likely to cause some flooding and disruption in some locations. The rain is likely to turn more showery during Tuesday afternoon.”

Meanwhile, late on Monday night, the Environment Agency (EA) issued a “severe” flood warning in South Yorkshire. Urging people around Knoll Beck in Bolton Upon Dearne to “act now”, the EA said “flooding is expected in this area”. It said “properties are at risk of flooding” around Manvers Way and Elsecar.
“Please take action to protect yourself and your property and monitor local weather and river conditions,” urged EA. “Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water. Consider activating any property flood protection products you may have.”
