Met police officer slashed by man wielding machete in London street

A police officer has been attacked with an machete in London according to witness reports.

Initial reports of an axe attack have been corrected by the Metropolitan Police which has confirmed that at a police officer was harmed by a blade approximately 11:50am on Sunday.

Dramatic clips taken at Forest Gate in Newham, East London on Sunday after show a sea of emergency vehicles parked up a row of terrace houses.

The Met said: "Police were called to reports of a man armed with a machete suffering a mental health crisis at an address in Skelton Road, E7.

"Officers attended – one officer received a slash injury to his arm and has been taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is not life threatening.

"Officers remain on scene and are attempting to engage with the man.

"The incident remains ongoing at this time.
