Pakistans ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan jailed for three years

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been sentenced to three years in prison.

A court in Islamabad found the politician and former cricket star guilty of illegally selling state gifts.

The ruling also banned Mr Khan, who is the leader of the main opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, from politics and political activities for five years.

Finally, the politician was fined £278 (Rs 100,000) by the court.

The judge ordered the politician’s immediate arrest following the ruling on August 5.

Mr Khan, who has repeatedly denied the allegations against him, will appeal against this ruling, his team has announced.

This is just one of the rulings expected by Mr Khan, who since he was ousted from politics has been slapped with more than 150 legal cases.

After the Pakistani parliament’s no-confidence vote against him in April 2022, he has been slapped with charges of corruption and terrorism.

He has also been charged to inciting people to violence over deadly protest that took place in May, during which his followers attacked government and military property across the country.
