The car-free area is thanks to ¡Viva! Streets Denver, a free community event series that celebrates Denver’s vibrant neighborhoods and supports local business with temporary car-free streets.
Over four Sundays from May through August, approximately 3.5 miles of downtown streets will close to cars and are open to people, cyclists, and people on scooters. The event encourages people of all ages “to walk, bike, roll, jog, scoot, or dance down activated streets in the heart of our city and connect with community through exercise, entertainment, and food.”
¡Viva! Streets activated Downtown Denver streets on Broadway from Maple to 20th street and on Welton Street from 20th Street to 28th Street. The roads were closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Denver Police Department monitored traffic crossings for cars to get through specific areas.
The next street closure will be Aug. 6.
