Sperm donor who hid condition before fathering kids banned from talking to woman

A sperm donor who hid a gene condition and went on to father 15 children has been banned from contacting a young woman he impregnated twice.

James MacDougall, 37, went ahead with a series of private sperm donations to a number of lesbian women after advertising himself on social media.

The 37-year-old did this despite knowing he had Fragile X syndrome, an incurable genetic condition that leads to low IQ and developmental delay and cannot be improved.

His identity emerged in May after an unprecedented move from a judge in the Family Court battle that has since prevented other women from using him as a sperm donor.

A 24-year-old mum of two of MacDougall's children has since been granted a restraining order by a court after MacDougall was found to be harassing her.

The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is co-parents of the two daughters with her girlfriend.

MacDougall is said to have "tried to work his way into" the life of the couple and subsequently separate them, but he was given a restraining order by Derby Magistrates' Court.

The restraining order will last until October 2027 after a judge ruled that he would also be unable to access certain parts of the city for that same period of time.

MacDougall, a volunteer at a film and sci-fi museum, pleaded guilty to using violence for the purpose of securing entry to a property without lawful authority.

In sentencing, Justice Lieven said that MacDougall had "took advantage of these young women's vulnerability and their strong desire to have children".

The children fathered by MacDougall are said to be between the ages of five months and three years old, Daily Mail reported.

Justice Lieven added that MacDougall had displayed "fundamental irresponsibility" when the unnamed 24-year-old turned to him after reportedly being desperate for a baby.

MacDougall, who was said to have met the eldest a few times, the mum reported, is said to have been encouraged by the meetings which the unnamed mum claims showed the "weird side" of him.

She added: "He wanted to be part of my family but that was never the arrangement."
