Student mauled to death by pack of dogs while going for picnic with boyfriend

A student died of horrific injuries this week after being mauled by a pack of stray dogs.

Simona Cavallaro, a 20-year-old Italian, was attacked by the dogs in the southern Italian town of Satriano after picnicking with her boyfriend.

The couple were attacked by as they passed through a densely wooded area and Miss Cavallaro's boyfriend eventually got away but she was mauled by the dogs which are reported to have attacked every part of her body.

Her boyfriend, who hasn't been named, managed to hide from the pack of dogs in an abandoned shack before alerting the local authorities with a phone call, according to The Sun.

They had finished their picnic in the woods with a group of friends and had decided to go for a walk when the attack occurred.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and Miss Cavallaro was taken to a nearby hospital but she died shortly after arriving due to the horrific injuries which covered all parts of her body.

Local authorities are in the process of rounding up the pack of dogs and an investigation into the student's death has begun.

The heartrending attack comes after an American teenager almost lost her hand, during a terrifying shark attack on a family holiday in the Bahamas.

The wounded teen was left with a shark tooth embedded in her flesh and forced to have two surgeries.

Speaking to Fox 29, Sophia Scroggie, 19, recalled trying to kick away the bull sharks that lunged at her during an ocean swim with her younger sister Olivia.

She said: "I remember screaming on the boat, 'Someone help me, please. Help me get on the boat,' and I remember my older sister grabbed me by my shoulders and just lunged me into the boat."

Her right hand is scarred after being bitten by the bull shark, and Sophia has been recovering at her parent's home in Boca Raton, Florida.
