A student has been suspended from university after a racist Snapchat video of him moaning about being stuck in “an ethnicity flat” with people “who stink” went viral.

The University of Loughborough student posted the video to Snapchat, but a screen grab was taken and shared to Twitter.

In the video, the student, who is thought to be a fresher, discussed his new flatmates, beginning the rant with, “without being racist".

He went on to add the students are “all sat in their rooms” and “don’t speak and they all stink”.

The student went on to add Loughborough isn’t allowing students from other flats to mix due to coronavirus, and complained he is “stuck in the ethnicity flat” with people who "don’t drink."

Concluding the video, he said, there are probably “loads of fitties in all the other flats”, and said the only good thing is his “leftover curry”.

It caused outrage among social media users who slammed the new student and called him out for apparent racism.

One commented: “Where's the part where he left out the racism? I must've missed it."

A second said: “I almost feel sorry for him. What a lack of education. What a lack of vision.

“What a lack of tolerance. What a lack of understanding of social media."

“Anyone else not surprised they were sitting in their rooms not speaking to him,” a third added.

Another said they were “disgusted” with the individual and said he shouldn’t be talking this way about people he will be “expecting to depend on if he falls ill”.

The user said: “I'm disgusted that this young person should be talking this way about another ethnic group.

"He's talking this way about people he lives with, people whom he'll be expecting to depend on if he falls ill from that day old curry."

The University of Loughborough initially replied on Twitter saying it was "aware of the post" and was launching an investigation.

On Monday, the university followed up their initial tweet with another which reads: "Following offensive remarks of a racist nature made on social media, a student has been suspended from the University and a full investigation is underway.

"Those directly affected have received support or given offers of support."
