Volodymyr Zelensky on his way out as Ukraine counteroffensive completely fails

Volodymyr Zelensky is “on his way out” as Ukraine’s counteroffensive completely fails according to Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko. Speaking in an interview with Swiss magazine 20 Minuten, Klitschko said Zelensky is now “paying for his mistakes” during the war with Russia.

This is where he suggested he could soon be out of a job.He said Zelensky’s popularity was falling in comparison with that of the military saying “people see who is effective and who is not.

“And there were and many expectations, people wonder why we weren’t better prepared for this war”. But he said the Ukrainian public must continue to support the president despite his failings.

Klitschko said: “The president has an important function today and we must support him until the end of the war. But at the end of this war, every politician will pay for his successes or failures.

But despite his criticism of the war leader, he ruled out running for the top job. He added: “It would be stupid to think about it today. Today the only question is whether Ukraine continues to exist at all.”

According to polling by Statista, Zelensky’s popularity in Ukraine remains significantly higher than it was last year, when Russia invaded, with more than 50pc of Ukrainians still strongly approving of their president’s actions.

But the number of those who support Zelensky fell throughout 2022 from 74pc at the start of the year to 58pc where it has settled. Only 3pc of Ukrainians strongly oppose his policies with most saying they “somewhat approve” of the president.

Zelensky himself has admitted his counteroffensive has not achieved “the desired results”, but said he did not feel the pressure to enter peace talks yet when speaking in Kyiv on Friday, December 1.
