William and Kate may have Princess Beatrice or Eugenie as new palace neighbours

Kate Middleton and Prince William are tipped to have some new neighbours in their Kensington Palace apartment, with Princesses Eugenie or Beatrice seeming likely to take up Apartment 1.

Previously the home of Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, and his wife Brigette, they reportedly moved out in 2019 to downsize.

The apartment is said to have lain empty ever since, with rumours circulating as to who could be the next potential neighbours to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Apartment 1A, the current residence of Kate and Will, boasts 20 rooms, including five reception rooms, three master bedrooms and two nurseries.

Marlene Koenig, a royal historian and expert, suggested the next neighbours could either be Princess Beatrice or Eugenie, reports the Mirror.

Speaking about the various royal residences and homes that Royal Family members own, and the difficulties around who might inhabit them in the future, she told The Express that Princess Anne’s home is “her own” and would go to her kids.

“It's not a royal home,” she added.

"There's an area next to it that Mark Phillips helped buy before the divorce, and that's where Zara and Peter live and have their homes — it's all going to be theirs at some point.

"But other homes and royal residences, right now, it's more about maintaining what they have.

"I use the example of Kensington Palace: there are apartments in there, Apartment 1 is now empty, what are they going to do with that?

"What are Historic Royal Palaces going to do with that?

"Personally, I would have no problem with Beatrice or Eugenie and their families living in one of those apartments, even if they're not working royals.

"They would be paying the upkeep and security and that sort of thing.

"You just can't rent those apartments out to people: there's many places they do rent out on the market but would they rent out apartment 1 to somebody who is not a member of the Royal Family?

"Because it's literally right next to where the Cambridges live."

Currently, Eugenie lives at Frogmore Cottage with her husband Jack Brooksbank, and their son, August.

Meanwhile, Beatrice resides in St James’ Palace with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and their baby Sienna, who was born on September 18.

The Duke of Cambridge this week admitted to often hiding the "stresses and strains of the day" during his time working for the East Anglia Air Ambulance.

In a filmed discussion with ambulance staff, he spoke about the importance of taking care of one’s mental health, and noted how the constant stream of calls from those in need during the "most stressful conditions" made for an exceedingly difficult job.

"In the air ambulance any job I went to with children, that really affected me, much more than I think if I hadn't had children actually,” Prince William said.

"So, for me, it was the relationship with my personal life with essentially the family or the incident I was at – I found that very difficult.

"There were a number of times when I had to take myself away because I was just getting too involved in it and feeling it.

“And then I'd go to talk to someone else after the event, which was really important, but it continues, it doesn't really leave you there – you just manage it better.”
