Woman mauled by monkeys on roof of house after spate of attacks

A woman has been left with horrific injuries after she was mauled by a troop of monkeys.

Yusufi Hussain, 35, was sitting on the roof of her home with daughter Sunawwar, eight, in India's Sambhal district when the animals struck. The child was able to run to safety, but her mother didn't manage to get away, the Times of India reports.

Yusufi's husband, Saleem, rushed to her aid and beat the monkeys with a stick, saving her life. She sustained multiple injuries from the assault, however, including several monkey bites and a blow to the head from when she fell to the floor.

Now residents of Sirsi, the town Yusifi and her family live, have demanded the apes be captured. However police are concerned there may not be much they can do about the wild animals.

Yusufi isn't the first victim of a monkey attack in the town in recent weeks. A little girl recently plummeted to death from a roof of her family home.

Six-year-old Kirti was sitting on a second-floor terrace with her granddad when the group of primates suddenly appeared on the property, the Daily Star previously reported. Scared, Kirti rushed away but tumbled from the edge of the roof.

A bereaved family member said: “She was chatting with her grandfather Chandra Pal on the house terrace while others were working downstairs. All of a sudden, we heard Kirti screaming for help. Before we could climb upstairs, we heard a loud thud and found her in a pool of blood.”
