Woman misled family for 17 years to live with secret incestuous lover and kids

A woman has been found to have misled her family for 17 years, marrying a relative in secret and having two kids with him.

Police in Kerala, India, produced the unnamed woman to a court on Saturday after a lengthy investigation at the request of her family.

According to police, she moved from the village of Mannancherry in Kerala to the state of Andhra Pradesh in 2004 and told her family that she had a job working as a teacher there.

"She was in love with a relative at Mannancherry, but the family was opposed to the relationship," explained Kerala police officer K V Benny.

"Later, the woman informed the family that she married an Andhra native and was living with him.

"Later she also severed all relations with her family.

"However, it created doubts in the family and they tried to find where she was hiding, but they failed."

Her lies started to unravel in 2015 when a government identification card was sent to her original family home. The card listed her relative as her husband.

Meanwhile, the relative had been visiting the family regularly to avoid suspicion. They confronted him about he card, concerned about the possibility of an incestuous relationship, but he denied having any connection with her.

At this time the woman was also making calls to several relatives in an attempt to seem normal. She also sent a photo of her, a man from Andhra and two children to her family, claiming that the man was her husband.

As the family grew increasingly suspicious they eventually submitted a lawsuit to the High Court which directed police to investigate.

Police quickly worked out that she wasn't living in Andhra Pradesh as she claimed, but rather the city of Palakkad where the identification card application had been lodged.

They also found that the phone number on the card and the photo she had sent to the family were fake.

Cyber investigators soon discovered that her relative lover had switched his phone number off in Palakkad and had a secret number which he used to contact the woman.

As it was established that they were in fact living together, the woman was brought into court.

However, the final ruling allowed her and her kids to continue living with the relative as per her wishes.
