Worlds oldest father confirmed as 92-year-old pensioner from Australia

Robert De Niro, 79, and Bernie Eccleston, 89, may have shocked the world with their baby announcements but an Australian pensioner is the man that holds the Guinness World Record. Les Colley had his ninth child, a son named Oswald, at the grand age of 92 years and 10 months after meeting a Fijian woman through a dating agency in the 1990s.

Below is a list of some of the world’s oldest fathers, with unconfirmed reports suggesting one man could have been more than 100 when he had his final child.

Though there are two unconfirmed reports of older fathers, Les Colley holds the official record after his partner gave birth to a son in 1993.

The Australian pensioner had his ninth child, Oswald, to his third wife two months before he turned 93.

Mr Colley lived a healthy and active life for almost a century, dying in 1998 from pneumonia, just four months before turning 100.

He leads the way ahead of Israeli pensioner Mahmoud al-Adam, who became a proud father to his 13th child at 92 years.

But unconfirmed reports suggest there are two men that could have been even older than Mr Colley and Mr al-Adam.

Ramjit Raghav, from India, was 94 when his first-born son, called Karamjit, was born in 2010.

In September 2012, at the age of 96, the pensioner and his wife Shakuntala, who was 54, then welcomed another son, Ranjit.

The two children each constitute a record for Mr Raghav if confirmed but there are no official records to prove he became a father when he did.

Mr Raghav, who has been a farmer all his life, said after the birth of his second son, that it was “God’s wish”, adding: “He wanted me to have another son.”

James E. Smith, however, a preacher from Illinois, could be the only man to father a child over the age of 100.

He claimed to have a child in the US in January 1951 with his wife Anna Smith, 38, at 101 years old and 10 months.

But although he claimed to be born in 1849, alternative records show he may have been 15 years younger when his child was born.

A newspaper article from Southern Illinoisan on April 8, 1959 purported to show previous marriage records, as well as Mr Smith’s application for an undertaker’s licence, which would have made him around 86 and 10 months at the time he claimed to be over 100 when fathering the child.

Robert De Niro’s newborn seventh child was seen for the first time on Tuesday as doting mom Tiffany Chen went for a walk with her baby in NYC on Wednesday.

The pair’s newborn child – who appeared to be less than a month old – was dressed in a pink onesie and swaddled in a white blanket as Tiffany lifted the baby out of a stroller.

Ms Chen was also seen pushing a stroller with the couple’s baby in as they soaked up the sun in the Big Apple.

The mother, who is believed to be 45, was seen with a baby bump in March but Mr De Niro only confirmed the birth of his child earlier this week.
