A dad has died on holiday with his family after getting lodged between his bed and the wall of the caravan where he was staying.<\/p>\n
Robert Channelle, 34, had been staying at Twitchen House Holiday Park in Woolacombe, Devon, with fianc\u00e9e Nicole, their two sons and several other family members to mark the couple's 11th anniversary last year when disaster struck. The group had enjoyed a walk and a night out in the resort's clubhouse before Robert and Nicole went to bed in separate rooms, reports DevonLive.<\/p>\n
Robert's body was found wedged in and he couldn't be revived. An inquest at Exeter Coroner's Court on Monday (November 6) found Robert's death on May 1, 2022, had occurred after he suffered a seizure, causing him to slip off his bed into the tight gap that then restricted his ability to breathe. There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.<\/p>\n

Robert was suffering from a brain tumour at the time of his death and had experienced seizures in the past. The inquest found the dosage of Robert's anti-seizure medication was lower than it should have been and he had been drinking that evening but was not intoxicated when he died.<\/p>\n
In a statement read out at the inquest, Nicole said the pair had been together since 2011 and had been planning to tie the knot in December 2023. She said her late fianc\u00e9 had once been a "naturally very strong man" who loved weightlifting. He was also passionate about his job as an air space operative in Bristol where the couple lived.<\/p>\n

Robert was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2018 and had to stop working after a surgery he received to treat the cancer caused him to lose his sight. Two years later doctors found the tumour had progressed to Stage Three, requiring further surgery.<\/p>\n
The dad was later diagnosed with a bone infection which medics struggled to treat and in March 2022 Robert suffered a seizure that was unusually severe. His anti-seizure medication was increased, but Nicole said her partner never looked the same after that.<\/p>\n
Alison Longhorn, area coroner for Exeter and greater Devon, said of Robert's death: "He had been diagnosed with a brain tumour four years previously and suffered from seizures as a result. On the night of his death, he suffered a further seizure causing him to slip in bed and fall between the bed and a tight gap by the wall."<\/p>\n
Addressing his family, she said: "It must have been awful losing him like this way after fighting his brain tumour for so many years."<\/p>\n
A fundraiser has now been set up to support Nicole and the couple's children \u2013 Theo, two, and 11-month-old Jacob \u2013 and to cover Robert's funeral costs. Nearly \u00a35,500 had been raised at the time of writing.<\/p>\n
