Russia is making super athletes \u2013 without \u201cdrilling holes into their heads,\u201d an expert has claimed.<\/p>\n
Top scientists in Vladimir Putin's country have been performing experiments on athletes to try and work out how to fine tune their brains and make them faster. And using a method commonly used to aid in stroke recovery, they appear to have figured it out.<\/p>\n
The boffins from the National Research Nizhny Novgorod State University teamed with those at the Baltic Federal University to use magnetic simulation on an athlete's brain. According to Kremlin-backed news outlet Moskovskij Komsomolets they strapped magnetics to a cap on their heads and created a magnetic field. <\/p>\n

It focussed on the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for every day movements, in that hope that stimulating it to new levels would improve reactions and speeds for athletes. The experiments were performed on 60 volunteers for just 10 minutes at a time, and they found that an \u201cacceleration\u201d in brain function and movements did take place.<\/p>\n
This, MK states, is how the brain can be stimulated without \u201cdrilling holes into it\u201d.<\/p>\n
Scientist Susanna Gordleyeva explained how it was tested. She said: \u201cThere is an arrow on the monitor that displays the delay between the appearance of the neural stimulus and the pattern, that is, the movement itself. So, in people with TMS this delay was 20% shorter.<\/p>\n
